Story
How it all began...
There are some competing stories about who was the one responsible or starting WWIII. Some say it was an unprovoked invasion by an imperialist western power. Others claim that an eastern dictatorship attempted to launch a surprise attack to cripple their enemies in a preemptive strike. Still others tell that the war was a mistake caused by a glitch in a computer monitoring station when vital bit that should have been set to ‘0’ was set to a ‘1’. What everyone agrees to is that the war only lasted hours. Nuclear bombs rained from the sky, satellite lasers destroyed government buildings and world monuments, and mechanized war suits took flight and battled over major cities. By the end of a day of fighting, the world’s governments had collapsed, major population centers had been completely wiped out, and the world’s ecosystems permanently altered. As the world’s disjointed survivors forged their way through the shattered world, they found themselves in a war short on all the resources they needed to survive: food, water, and safety. But there was something that they now found themselves with an abundance of: the tools of war. A plentitude of guns, bombs, armor, and laser arms ensured a world heavily armed population in dangerous competition for the world’s more limited resources. And even more crucially, the wrecks of the mechanized war suits provided the framework and technology to build new and destructive vehicles to claim dominance over the anarchic land. A new world order was begun, where those who controlled the biggest, most destructive vehicles gathered followers and were able to claim dominance in their small part of world through might and intimidation. Conflict is never far around the corner, however, and soon these warlords found themselves in competition with one another over regions that still had yet unclaimed resources. One lesson was learned from the collapse of the old world, however, and rather risk another destructive event that would lay waste to what little they had built, a new method of settling things between them was determined: The Demolition Race.
Hot Sands
What had once been the center of vibrant city in the old world, reduced to ashes in the war, and those ashes cast aside by wind as the environment in the region became one of an arid desert. Sands from the coast were blown in and settled in a fine layer over the region, which, when combined with the heat, gave this region its very literal nickname. The layer of sand is thin, nestling just atop gravel, concrete, shattered metal, and other debris of the city that once was. It crunches with every step, and an uncareful foot could be impaled by a shard protrusion. The drivers that make their way through it need to be cautious about tearing up the sand and getting caught in the grooves of the ruins beneath. In the near distance, the remains of old skyscrapers still stand, their crumbling nature another hazard in this doomed landscape. Here is where the various warlords decided to make their contest. The region has few desirable resources, making it excellent neutral ground, and the combination of open space and natural hazards made it perfect for testing the skills of their drivers. Here, the Demolition Race would be held, a series of dangerous driver trials to determine the distribution of land, resources, and prestige.
